Tottenham Hotspur are in the market for Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez, who could be available for a cut-price deal.

According to Calciomercato, Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs interested in a January swoop for Nahitan Nandez. The Cagliari midfielder has been linked with a move away from the club for well over a year now, but not even one of his suitors has agreed to meet his €36 million release clause.

However, that could change in the upcoming January transfer window. It appears Cagliari president has promised the player to lower his asking fee in the winter market, allowing clubs like Tottenham to make a realistic offer for the midfielder.

Formerly of Boca Juniors, Nandez has made a name for himself since his move to Europe in 2019. He has notched up over 80 competitive appearances for Cagliari, becoming a vital part of their second line of press due to his versatility, work ethic and aggression.

During his time with the club, the Uruguayan international has been involved in 13 goals, nine of which have been assists. He has largely operated on the right side of the midfield, impressing the onlookers with his tactical versatility and quality in the press.

In addition to Cagliari, Nandez’s gifts in the press are highly valued by Antonio Conte as well. The newly-appointed Tottenham manager is desperate to add more reliable options in his midfield department in the upcoming January transfer window, having recently been linked with a swoop for Weston McKennie.

It is apparent that Nandez offers far more aggression and experience at the highest level of football. It could prove to be ideal for Tottenham, as Conte looks to find desirable options for his 3-5-2 during the second half of the campaign.

The Lilywhites, though, are set to face stiff competition in the race to sign the Cagliari midfielder. The Uruguayan international is being courted by the two Serie A giants in Napoli and Conte’s former team Inter Milan. It could make the job a tad bit difficult for Spurs to get their hands on the 25-year-old, although the North London giants could offer a far better salary and an opportunity to play in the Premier League.

Tottenham have no shortage of alternatives, though. As mentioned earlier, they are already in the market for McKennie, while AS Roma’s talented asset Nicolo Zaniolo is also a target, although the Italian is a far more attacking alternative than Nandez.
