Lazio midfield mainstay Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is reportedly open to making a switch to Real Madrid, who are on the lookout for midfield reinforcements.

According to a report from El NacionalReal Madrid may have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, as the Serbian midfielder is open to joining the club in the summer.

Milinkovic-Savic joined Lazio back in 2015 from Belgian outfit KRC Genk in a deal worth just €12 million and has since gone on to establish himself as a household name with his stellar displays in the middle of the park for the Italian giants. A consistent performer over the years for Lazio, the 26-year-old has been on the radars of several top clubs for a number of years now.

Indeed, Real Madrid themselves were keen on signing Milinkovic-Savic in the summer of 2018, but Lazio slapped a whopping €150 million price tag on him, deterring the La Liga powerhouse. However, heading into 2022, Los Blancos have rekindled their interest in the Serbian international, with Carlo Ancelotti keen on reinforcing his midfield in the summer.

Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Casemiro continue to be the crux of this Real Madrid team. But Modric will soon be turning 37 while both Casemiro and Kroos are not getting any younger either. So, it is time for Los Blancos to start putting together a succession plan in place for one of the most successful midfield tridents in the club’s history.

Federico Valverde is already at the club, ready to take over, while the Merengues also brought in Eduardo Camavinga this past summer. However, president Florentino Perez is keen on making at least two more additions to the midfield department next summer, as per the report.

Contacts have already been established with Aurelien Tchouameni, while reports of interest in Paul Pogba refuse to go away either. Now, Milinkovic-Savic has also reemerged as a target for the Spanish capital club. In fact, the report claims that Real Madrid’s chances of signing the 26-year-old Serb look bright as he is keen on making a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

The report further adds that, unlike last time, Lazio would be willing to accept a more reasonable transfer fee of around €60 million, which will serve as another boost for Florentino Perez & co. Whether they end up landing Milinkovic-Savic come next summer remains to be seen.
