Newcastle United are reportedly willing to offer €80 million to secure the services of Dusan Vlahovic, a target for Barcelona.

According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Newcastle United are stepping up their efforts to sign Dusan Vlahovic in the January transfer window. The Magpies are prepared to offer €80 million to land the Fiorentina striker, who is also being courted by Barcelona.

Dusan Vlahovic has become a highly sought-after player in the transfer market following what has been a memorable 2021. The 21-year-old ended the 2020/21 campaign on a strong note, scoring goals for fun by the time the season drew to a close. And he has only gone from strength to strength this term.

The Serbian international has a fantastic tally of 12 goals and two assists in 14 appearances across all competitions. However, Vlahovic’s time at Fiorentina is nigh on ending after he refused to sign a new contract. Such a situation has piqued the interest of several clubs, including Barcelona and Newcastle United.

The interest from Barcelona is understandable, considering Luuk de Jong has been a dud since arriving from Sevilla on loan in the summer transfer window. In addition, Sergio Aguero is reportedly likely to retire due to the heart issue that has left him on the sidelines. At the same time, Martin Braithwaite could be sold at the earliest opportunity.

So, Barcelona are desperate to sign a striker, and Vlahovic, with his qualities, could be the true long-sought successor to Luis Suarez. However, the Catalan giants face stiff competition from Newcastle United in pursuit of the Fiorentina striker, with the Tyneside outfit the latest club to join the race to sign him.

Recent reports have claimed that the Magpies are stepping up their interest in Vlahovic, which has been corroborated by El Nacional. According to the Catalan outlet, Newcastle could lodge a bid worth €80 million to secure the services of the 21-year-old while also offering him a bumper deal to turn his head.

Such a development has come as a blow to Barcelona. The Catalan giants now need to step up their efforts to sign Vlahovic but are also hoping the Newcastle’s dire situation in the Premier League this season could force Vlahovic’s decision and opt to make his way to Camp Nou instead. So, it remains to be seen if Newcastle can beat Barcelona to his signature with an €80 million offer.
