Inter Milan have reportedly identified Manchester United star Dean Henderson as a potential replacement for Samir Handanovic.

According to Fichajes, Inter Milan have emerged as the latest club to have registered their interest in Dean Henderson. The Serie A giants are in the market for a new goalkeeper as they prepare for life without Samir Handanovic. They have identified the Manchester United goalkeeper as an ideal long-term replacement and are prepared to snap him up in the near future.

Formerly of Udinese, Handanovic has been one of the best goalkeepers in Serie A over the past decade or so. He joined Inter way back in 2012 for a fee of €15 million. Since then, the Slovenian international has emerged as the undisputed number one for the Nerazzurri, having featured in over 400 competitive matches for the club.

Handanovic did have an unfortunate run with Inter when it comes to winning silverware. But the goalkeeper registered his first major trophy at club level by securing the Serie A title last season. However, the veteran goalkeeper has struggled with form lately and was criticised for his performance even during the 2020/21 campaign.

At the age of 37, Handanovic does not appear to have a long future at Inter either. As a result, the club is now targeting a move for Dean Henderson, hoping to secure a cut-price deal for the Manchester United outcast, either in January or the next summer transfer window.

Highly regarded as one of the best goalkeeping talents in England, Henderson has found it difficult to get regular game-time since returning to Old Trafford last summer. He has indeed mustered only 27 competitive appearances for Manchester United in the past one and a half years, failing to oust David de Gea as the club’s number one choice in between the sticks.

Inter are ready to lure Henderson to Italy by giving him the opportunity to play regularly at the highest level of football. The Nerazzurri have built a solid reputation for being the ideal destination for ex-Manchester United stars, having signed the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Ashley Young, Romelu Lukaku and Matteo Darmian in recent years.

However, the reigning Italian champions are set to face stiff competition from Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Henderson. Even the likes of Newcastle United and Barcelona are involved in the pursuit of the Manchester United outcast, so it won’t be surprising to see Simone Inzaghi’s team setting their sights on other alternatives, including Andre Onana.
