Real Madrid are reportedly interested in 18-year-old AS Roma prodigy Felix Afena-Gyan, but the Serie A giants are determined to keep hold of him.

According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Felix Afena-Gyan is the subject of interest from Real Madrid over a move in a future transfer window. The Spanish giants have previously tried to sign the 18-year-old AS Roma prodigy, albeit unsuccessfully so.

Felix Afena-Gyan joined AS Roma from EurAfrica FC earlier this year and has taken no time to establish a foothold in the first-team setup at Stadio Olimpico. The teenage prodigy was initially assigned to the Serie A club’s under-19 squad but is now a regular feature under Jose Mourinho after impressing in the chances afforded to him.

Gyan has made three appearances for Roma, scoring two goals in the process, each of those coming in a match-winning display against Genoa this past weekend. The 18-year-old’s stock has climbed considerably as a result, with Real Madrid among his prospective suitors.

The Spanish giants have tried signing Gyan on two previous occasions, but a move never materialised. The first approach came before he joined AS Roma, but the youngster opted to join the Serie A giants as he saw a clearer pathway to attain regular first-team action.

Real Madrid then tried to sign the 18-year-old in the summer transfer window, only for Jose Mourinho to intervene and coax him into staying put at Stadio Olimpico. The Merengues have not ended their interest in Gyan, though, and could launch the offensive a third time in future.

The interest in the Ghanaian whizkid makes sense, considering Luka Jovic and Mariano Diaz face uncertain futures at Real Madrid. In fact, Jovic has even been linked with a move to AS Roma and is expected to depart the Santiago Bernabeu at the earliest opportunity. So, even though Erling Haaland is a priority target for Real Madrid, Gyan is also an option worth considering.

Apart from the 18-year-old prodigy, Los Blancos have also been linked with several other strikers, including Julian Alvarez. As for the pursuit of Gyan, it will be interesting to see if Real Madrid can land the Roma starlet at the third time of asking or if the Serie A giants manage to keep hold of the youngster once again.

However, chances are Real Madrid will face defeat in pursuit of Gyan yet again, considering he is keen on regularly featuring at a first-team level, which he is unlikely to get if he joins the Spanish giants.
