Bayern Munich and Chelsea are reportedly set to go head-to-head in pursuit of Gavi, who has a €50 million release clause in his Barcelona contract.

According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Gavi has emerged on the radar of Bayern Munich over a move in a future transfer window. The 17-year-old prodigy, who has a €50 million release clause in his deal with Barcelona, is also being courted by Chelsea.

Gavi has made quite an impact since being handed his Barcelona debut at the onset of the ongoing season. A part of the Catalan club since arriving from Real Betis in 2015, the Spanish prodigy has made swift progress in Catalonia and is already a regular feature for club and country.

The 17-year-old has made 16 appearances across all competitions for Barcelona this term while also turning out four times for the Spanish national side. His exploits have not gone unnoticed, with Bayern Munich and Chelsea looking to swoop him away from Barcelona, with his €50 million exit clause appealing.

Gavi is not the only Barcelona midfielder to emerge as a target for Bayern Munich. The Bavarian giants have been linked with Pedri and Frenkie de Jong recently, with the 17-year-old also an option worth considering amid the uncertainties surrounding the future of Marc Roca, who has been linked with Barcelona.

The Spanish prodigy is also a key target for Chelsea. The Blues are reportedly ready to shell out €50 million to secure his services, having been touted to be in the market for a midfielder. With Saul Niguez failing to make an impression since arriving on loan from Atletico Madrid in the summer and N’Golo Kante falling prey to several injuries of late, it is understandable why Chelsea would want someone like Gavi.

In essence, the Barcelona prodigy could be a like-for-like replacement for Ross Barkley, who is also facing an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge. However, the entry of Bayern Munich in the race to sign the teenage prospect is bad news for Chelsea, especially with the Bundesliga champions ready to pay €50 million to land him.

However, neither Chelsea nor Bayern Munich might sign Gavi, who reportedly has no intention of leaving Barcelona. The Catalan giants hope to tie him down to a new long-term contract, complete with a €1 billion release clause. So, it looks like Gavi has a bright, long future at Barcelona, meaning Chelsea and Bayern Munich will need to turn their attention elsewhere in search of a midfield reinforcement.
