Antonio Adan has reportedly emerged on the radar of Real Madrid, with the former La Fabrica ace viewed as a replacement for Andriy Lunin.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Andriy Lunin’s desire to leave Real Madrid has forced the Spanish club to create a shortlist of potential replacement options. And one of the candidates on the Merengues’ radar is Antonio Adan, a graduate of their academy.

Antonio Adan started his senior footballing career at Real Madrid in 2010, having passed through the club’s youth setup. However, the Spaniard could never really establish a foothold in the first-team squad, with Iker Casillas and Keylor Navas firmly ahead of him in the pecking order.

Once he joined Real Betis in January 2014, the 34-year-old finally made a name for himself and started getting rated as one of the best goalkeepers in La Liga. And Adan has impressed a lot lately at Sporting Lisbon, having joined the Portuguese giants from Atletico Madrid last year.

To date, the Spanish goalkeeper has made 53 appearances for Sporting, keeping 30 clean sheets in the process. Adan also played his part in the Leoes’ league triumph last season and has continued to go from strength to strength this term. His exploits have now caught the attention of former club Real Madrid.

The Spanish giants are being forced into the transfer market for a goalkeeper due to Andriy Lunin’s desire to call it quits at the Santiago Bernabeu. The Ukrainian goalkeeper has been unable to usurp Thibaut Courtois as Real Madrid’s first-choice goalkeeper and is now eager to seek greener pastures to get his career back on track.

To that end, the 22-year-old has been linked with Borussia Dortmund and several La Liga clubs. Meanwhile, Real Madrid will need to find a replacement as soon as possible, with Adan emerging as a viable target.

Apart from Adan, the Merengues’ shortlist features David Ospina, Edgar Badia, Joel Robles and Sergio Asenjo. In addition, Dani Cardenas and Fernando Pacheco have also been linked with Real Madrid. So, with several goalkeepers on their radar, it will be interesting to see who the Spanish giants pursue in the January transfer window to replace Lunin.
