Real Madrid are reportedly weighing up the possibility of signing 24-year-old Spanish goalkeeper Dani Cardenas from Levante in January.

According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Real Madrid could be forced into the transfer market in search of a goalkeeper, with Andriy Lunin eager to leave the club. To that end, Dani Cardenas is one of the options being considered by the Spanish giants over a move in the January transfer window.

Dani Cardenas has made quite the impression since earning his senior cap for Levante in a La Liga game against Real Valladolid last year. Up until then, he had played second fiddle to Aitor Fernandez while largely featuring for the Granotes’ reserve side.

While he is still yet to cement his place as the first-choice goalkeeper for Levante, he has still done enough in his 17 appearances for the club to attract one of the biggest clubs in the world. Real Madrid are interested in the 24-year-old as they search for a goalkeeping reinforcement in the January transfer window.

The Spanish giants are being forced to dip their toes in the transfer market in the January transfer window for a goalkeeper. That is because Andriy Lunin is eager to call it quits at Real Madrid after failing to get his chances since arriving from Zorya Luhansk in June 2018.

While it is hardly surprising that Lunin has barely featured ahead of the brilliant Thibaut Courtois, it also makes sense why the 22-year-old would want to move away from Real Madrid. To that end, the Ukrainian goalkeeper has been linked with several clubs including Borussia Dortmund.

According to El Nacional, Lunin is set to join Espanyol in an 18-month loan deal. Such a transfer will not include a purchase option, which points towards Real Madrid’s faith in the youngster. As for his replacement, Real Madrid could source one from the Castilla side or head into the market. As a result, Cardenas has emerged as a target.

The 24-year-old is a viable target, considering just how impressive he has been in the opportunities afforded to him at Levante. However, it is unclear whether he will be open to joining Real Madrid, seeing as he will only feature in the Copa Del Rey when Courtois is fit and available. So, it remains to be seen if the Merengues can land Cardenas in January.
