Barcelona have reportedly been handed the opportunity to sign 24-year-old Spanish midfielder Marc Roca from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Marc Roca has given Barcelona the chance to sign him through his representatives. The Catalan giants have responded favourably to such an opportunity and will discuss a possible move with Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich soon.

Marc Roca spent most of his formative years with Espanyol before beginning his senior career at the Catalan club. During his four-year spell with the senior side, the 24-year-old established himself as one of the best midfielders in La Liga before joining Bayern Munich in 2020 following Espanyol’s relegation.

However, the move to Bayern Munich has not worked out well for Roca, who has made a mere 11 appearances for the Bundesliga champions. With his career headed nowhere at the Allianz Arena, the player has decided to call it quits at the German club, with Barcelona being offered the chance to snap him up.

Barcelona have been touted to be in the market for a midfielder as far as the next two transfer windows are concerned. The eagerness to bolster the midfield unit is well-founded, considering the Blaugrana chose not to sign a replacement for Ilaix Moriba or Miralem Pjanic in the summer.

As a result, they have been short of options in the middle of the park, thereby prompting the usage of Gavi and Nico Gonzalez. However, a prudent move would be to sign a more experienced midfielder, which is why Barcelona have been linked with Thiago Alcantara, Mikel Merino and Denis Zakaria.

Roca is a viable target for Barcelona. The player’s ability to play as a holding midfielder makes him a potential long-term successor for Sergio Busquets, who is in the twilight of his career. And Barcelona have responded favourably to the offer to sign the 24-year-old.

According to El Nacional, Barcelona are set to hold talks with Bayern Munich over the prospect of signing Roca when the two sides meet in the UEFA Champions League later this month. However, Barcelona will need to move quickly to snap up the Spaniard from the Bundesliga champions, with Real Betis, Villarreal and Mallorca also interested. So, it remains to be seen if Roca returns to La Liga by joining the Catalan giants.
