Manchester City are reportedly ready to rekindle their interest in Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane in the upcoming January transfer window.

According to a report from ESPN, Manchester City are prepared to revisit their interest in Tottenham Hotspur superstar Harry Kane and may launch a fresh bid for the England captain in the upcoming transfer window.

One of the best centre-forwards in the game currently, Kane was intent on leaving Tottenham earlier this year to join a team where he can challenge for and win silverware. Manchester City were keen on signing him all through the summer, but a move could not be worked out as Spurs’ chairman Daniel Levy dug his heels in, demanding a transfer fee in excess of £150 million.

Manchester City were unwilling to meet that figure, which meant that the England striker, who had won the Premier League Golden Boot and the Best Playmaker award for the last season, stayed put at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Having remained a Spurs’ player, the 28-year-old has made a poor start to the new campaign, struggling to deliver the goods in front of goal.

Although his overall tally for the season reads seven goals and two assists in 16 games in all competitions, Kane has found the back of the net just once in ten Premier League games in 2021/22. The Englishman recently opened up on his failed move to the Etihad and his struggles on the field, insisting that he is not letting the transfer saga affect his mindset.

However, things could spark up again in the January transfer window, as Manchester City are now plotting a fresh approach for the 28-year-old in the January transfer window. Having put all their eggs in the Kane basket, the Cityzens failed to bring in a new centre-forward in the summer to fill in for Sergio Aguero, who left for Barcelona.

While Pep Guardiola has found a way to get his team playing fluently without a natural No. 9 on the pitch, there are games when the need for a proper centre-forward becomes too apparent. And the reigning champions of England are now hoping to revisit their interest in Kane and launch a new bid to try and pry him away from Tottenham.

However, the report adds that Levy is unlikely to change his stance on his star striker, whose contract runs until 2024, especially after the appointment of Antonio Conte as the new manager. So, things could very well go the same way they did in the summer transfer window.

Manchester City, though, have identified alternatives if a move falls through, with Erling Haaland very much on the agenda, while Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic is also a target. It remains to be seen who the Premier League champions end up signing in the winter transfer window.
