Premier League side Crystal Palace have reportedly shown an interest in Real Madrid striker Borja Mayoral.

According to Calciomercato, Premier League side Crystal Palace are showing interest in talented Real Madrid striker Borja Mayoral.

The 24-year-old came through the ranks at the Santiago Bernabeu before making his senior bow for the club in 2015. He has since made 33 appearances for Los Blancos, scoring seven goals and assisting four more.

Currently on loan at AS Roma, the former Spanish youth international is attracting attention from several clubs. His stay at the Stadio Olimpico promised much during the 2020/21 campaign but has fallen short of expectations so far this season. More so, Real appear to be ready to part ways with him.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side is currently in refit and is rebuilding. Mayoral appears to be one of the players they intend to cash in on. With playing time coming at a premium in Italy, Real are ready to recall their man by terminating the loan agreement.

Now under Patrick Vieira, Crystal Palace are one of the teams in the fray. The Eagles boss is keen to add more firepower to his ranks and is targeting the 24-year-old. The London based side was interested in Mayoral in the summer, but a deal did not come to fruition. They now look set to rekindle that interest in the upcoming transfer window.

Palace signed Odsonne Edouard in the summer from Celtic. The Frenchman has since gone on to make eight appearances, scoring three goals. While he has impressed, it has not been enough to get pulses racing. While Christian Benteke and Jordan Ayew offer depth, neither can be classified as prolific goalscorers.

Mayoral, for his part, is unlikely to become that prolific goalscorer who can thrive at Selhurst Park. More so, just how Vieira plans to use him remains to be seen. With his time in Spain and Italy coming to an end, the 24-year-old has age on his side to write a new chapter in his career in England.

Mayoral has certainly shown enough promise, but he is not ready to take on the mantle of an elite goalscorer. The switch to the Premier League could provide him with just the opportunity to do so. Whether he will take it remains to be seen.
