Real Madrid have reportedly been offered the chance to sign former Barcelona academy ace Xavi Simons, who will leave Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent.

According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Real Madrid have been given the opportunity to secure the services of Xavi Simons. The former Barcelona academy ace is set to leave Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent in next summer’s transfer window, with the Blaugrana rejecting the chance to snap him up.

Xavi Simons spent most of his formative years at Barcelona, joining the club’s famed academy La Masia in 2010. However, his time at Barcelona ended in 2019, when he left the Catalan club to join Paris Saint-Germain searching for a clearer pathway to first-team football.

The move to the French capital has not worked out as envisioned for Simons, though, as he has managed just 13 minutes of first-team action for PSG so far. With his career headed nowhere in Paris as things stand, the former Barcelona trainee has decided to call it quits and will run down his contract with Les Parisiens. And Real Madrid have been offered the chance to sign him for free next summer.

Real Madrid have been touted to be in the market for a creative midfielder, with Luka Modric in the twilight of his career. In addition, Toni Kroos is well into his thirties and will need to be phased out eventually. So, even though Eduardo Camavinga was signed in the summer transfer window, Los Blancos can still do with another midfielder.

With Dani Ceballos and Isco deemed surplus to requirements, the need to sign a creative midfielder is further accentuated. As a result, Real Madrid have been linked with several midfielders of late, including Ruben Neves, Paul Pogba, Donny van de Beek.

Now, Xavi Simons has offered his services to Real Madrid through his entourage after being snubbed by Barcelona. It had indeed been reported that the 18-year-old was keen on returning to Barcelona. However, with the Blaugrana uninterested in snapping him up, Real Madrid have emerged as his next best option.

As per the report, though, Real Madrid are currently hesitant in taking up on the offer to sign Xavi Simons on a Bosman move following the struggles of Takefusa Kubo. If the switch to Real Madrid does not see the light of the day, the former Barcelona academy ace will set his sights on making his way to the Premier League. For now, all that remains certain is that Simons is set to leave PSG as a free agent.
