Chelsea playmaker Hakim Ziyech has reportedly emerged as a January target for Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund.

According to Bild, Borussia Dortmund are considering a move for Hakim Ziyech. The Chelsea attacker is highly favoured by Marco Rose. The BVB head coach is currently looking for someone who can provide additional creative support for star striker Erling Haaland during the second half of the campaign.

Ziyech himself is frustrated over his lack of game-time at Chelsea and is open to sealing an exit away from Stamford Bridge in January. He does have a contract at Chelsea until 2025, which means Dortmund might only be able to secure his services on a loan deal.

The Moroccan international has had a difficult time at Chelsea under the leadership of Thomas Tuchel. The German tactician has largely favoured Mason Mount, Kai Havertz and Callum Hudson-Odoi, with Ziyech falling behind the trio in the pecking order.

In fact, the former Ajax attacker has started only two games in the Premier League this season. He has been a more prominent presence in Chelsea’s UEFA Champions League campaign, but the overall game-time provided to him by Tuchel is far from satisfactory.

As a result, Ziyech intends to move away from Chelsea in the upcoming January transfer window in an attempt to revive his career. Borussia Dortmund are ready to offer him that opportunity by snapping him up on loan during the winter market.

The Bundesliga giants have endured a brutal injury crisis so far, with key players like Mahmoud Dahoud, Raphael Guerreiro, Giovanni Reyna and Thorgan Hazard all facing lengthy spells on the sidelines. It has forced Marco Rose to rely on fringe players like Julian Brandt, Marius Wolf and even occasionally Reinier Jesus, who is expected to leave the club in January.

The potential addition of Ziyech could thus make a world of sense for both the club and the player. However, it remains to be seen whether Tuchel allows the Moroccan to leave Chelsea in January. The ex-BVB boss had played a vital role in blocking Hudson-Odoi’s move to Bundesliga earlier in the summer and could do a repeat here.

Ziyech himself is not the only Chelsea attacker to be linked with a move for Dortmund either, as the Black and Yellows are also considering a move for Timo Werner. It appears the German international has been identified as a potential replacement for Erling Haaland, who is a target for Barcelona among many other top clubs across Europe.
