Everton are in the running to sign Lorenzo Insigne in the summer on a free transfer, with the Italian looking increasingly likely to depart Napoli.

According to Tuttosport via Sport Witness, Everton are growing serious about signing Lorenzo Insigne on a free transfer in the summer. The Italian international is going through a tough period due to his contract situation at his current club Napoli. He looks increasingly likely to depart the Partenopei, with whom he has spent his entire career.

Insigne’s current deal expires in the summer of 2022, meaning he is free to sign a pre-contract with a foreign club in January and move on a Bosman deal after the season ends. Insigne, nurtured through Napoli’s youth system, has become one of their star performers over the years, helping the club succeed at different levels.

He also is a key part of Roberto Mancini’s Italy setup, helping the national side win the UEFA Euro 2020, beating England in the Wembley Final. At 30, he still has plenty of years to give, and many sides are reportedly keen to lure him away.

There’s significant interest from the Premier League and Spain. Barcelona are reportedly monitoring his situation and could be tempted to sign him on a free transfer. Chelsea have also shown an interest in bringing the experienced Italian to Stamford Bridge, while London rivals Tottenham monitor his situation keenly.

While recent reports suggested that Insigne might be open to a move to Manchester United, it’s unclear whether the Red Devils are interested in signing him. Furthermore, Everton are very much in the race for his signing and are reportedly very serious about bringing him to Goodison Park.

There were previous links between the player and Everton due to Carlo Ancelotti, who managed Insigne at Napoli. Those connections still exist despite the Italian’s departure for Real Madrid in the summer, and the main reason could be the finances involved.

While Napoli are reportedly not willing to pay Insigne’s demands, Everton are certainly showing encouraging signs to offer a good salary package with a signing-on fee to top it. The offer could tempt Insigne to move and join the Premier League side next summer, with a deal likely to be wrapped up in January itself.

It remains to be seen what transpires of these stories, and it will be interesting to watch the Insigne play for Everton. He could be a wise signing for the club that are trying their best to stay relevant amongst the elites of the Premier League.
