Liverpool are reportedly eager to land Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Florian Neuhaus, also a target for Real Madrid, next summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Florian Neuhaus has popped up on the radar of Liverpool once again. The Premier League heavyweights are prepared to rival Real Madrid in pursuit of the Borussia Monchengladbach over a move in next summer’s transfer window.

Florian Neuhaus has come leaps and bounds since joining Borussia Monchengladbach from 1860 Munich in the summer of 2017. In the last four years, the 24-year-old has established himself as a mainstay in midfield for Die Fohlen, with his fortunes skyrocketing upon his return from a loan spell at Fortuna Dusseldorf.

His rapid progress has also helped Neuhaus in breaking into the German national side, while for Gladbach, he has made 127 appearances, chipping in with 17 goals and 20 assists in the process. The player has invariably also emerged as a target for some of the biggest clubs in Europe, with Liverpool and Real Madrid among his suitors.

Liverpool were heavily linked with a move for Neuhaus in the summer before they turned down the chance to sign him. However, it looks like the Reds have reignited their interest in the German international, which makes sense, considering James Milner is in the twilight of his career while Thiago Alcantara has struggled with injuries since arriving from Bayern Munich last year.

In addition, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has struggled to impress in recent times, which has created uncertainty surrounding his future at the club. So, it is understandable why Liverpool are keen on signing Neuhaus, who has been identified as a target for next summer. On the other hand, Real Madrid require a long-term replacement for Luka Modric.

With Toni Kroos well into his thirties and Isco set to be deemed surplus to requirements soon, Real Madrid can do with a midfield reinforcement despite signing Eduardo Camavinga in the summer. To that end, Neuhaus is a viable target for Los Blancos, who could be hot on his trail next year.

It will be interesting to see if Borussia Monchengladbach are ready to part ways with Neuhaus by the time the summer transfer window opens next year if Liverpool or Real Madrid come calling. Till then, the Foals have the chance to enjoy a memorable 2021/22 campaign with the 24-year-old being a key member of the first-team squad.
