Real Madrid have reportedly decided to call off their pursuit of RB Leipzig attacker Dani Olmo, also a target for arch-rivals Barcelona.

According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Barcelona look set to have a clear run at Dani Olmo when they make their move for him. That is because Real Madrid have dropped out of the race to sign the RB Leipzig attacker, with their focus turned towards Karim Adeyemi instead.

Dani Olmo has come a long way since making the brave decision of leaving Barcelona as a 16-year-old to join Dinamo Zagreb. After making massive strides at the Croatian club, the Spaniard earned his big break in the national side before going to Germany to join RB Leipzig in January 2020.

Nearly two years since first arriving at the Red Bull Arena, Olmo is regarded as one of the best playmakers in the Bundesliga while also becoming a regular feature for Spain. His progress has not gone unnoticed either, with Barcelona and Real Madrid among his prospective suitors.

Barcelona had been keen on signing Olmo in the summer transfer window as well, only to leave it too late to make their move. Since then, their interest has only grown stronger, with the 23-year-old emerging as a priority target for the Catalan giants.

The eagerness to sign Olmo makes sense, considering he can play as part of a three-man midfield equally adeptly as he does as a wide attacker. With Barcelona in need of bolstering their midfield and attack, the Spanish international is a viable target. On the other hand, Real Madrid could use Olmo out wide.

The Merengues are require signing wingers amid the growing frustrations surrounding Eden Hazard and Marco Asensio. In addition, Gareth Bale is in the final year of his contract with Real Madrid and is set to depart the Santiago Bernabeu at the earliest opportunity. However, instead of pursuing Olmo, Real Madrid have now decided to firm up their interest in Karim Adeyemi.

So, it looks like Barcelona will have a clear run at signing Olmo, be it in January or next summer. It has been reported that the 23-year-old favours a move back to Barcelona, and if the stars align, he could be on his way to Camp Nou in one of the two upcoming transfer windows.
