Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly eager to secure the services of Real Madrid Toni Kroos, who would be open to joining the French giants.

According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Paris Saint-Germain have joined the race to sign Toni Kroos in next summer’s transfer window. The Real Madrid midfielder, who would be open to joining the French giants, is also a target for Manchester City.

Toni Kroos has established his place in the annals of Real Madrid and has been nothing short of extraordinary since arriving from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2014. Over the last seven years, the German international has been a pivotal figure for club and country, playing a key role in Los Blancos’ unprecedented success in this period.

To date, the 31-year-old has made 327 appearances for Real Madrid, chipping in with 22 goals and 80 assists along the way. However, at the turn of the year, Kroos will have 18 months remaining on his deal with the Merengues, which has piqued the interest of several clubs across Europe. And the latest club to have emerged in pursuit of the player is Paris Saint-Germain.

PSG have been touted to enter the market for a midfielder next summer, which makes sense considering Idrissa Gueye and Ander Herrera are well into the thirties. In addition, Marco Verratti has been hampered by many fitness issues in the last couple of years.

So, it is hardly surprising that Les Parisiens are keen on signing a central midfielder, as they look to continue building a squad capable of swatting teams away in Europe to win the elusive UEFA Champions League crown finally. To that end, PSG have been linked with midfielders like Franck Kessie, Paul Pogba and Frenkie de Jong, with Kroos also a viable target.

According to El Nacional, Real Madrid could consider the possibility of offloading Kroos as they look to facilitate the transition to the next generation of midfielders. For his part, the German playmaker is also open to joining PSG, although Manchester City are also hot on his trails.

So, a transfer battle could be set up between two powerhouses of European football, and it remains to be seen if PSG can prevail in the pursuit of Kroos. What will also be interesting to see is if Real Madrid do decide to cash in on the 31-year-old next summer.
