Liverpool have reportedly set their sights on Luka Jovic, with Jurgen Klopp an admirer of the Real Madrid outcast.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Luka Jovic is the subject of interest from Liverpool over a possible move in the future transfer window. The Reds are closely monitoring the situation of the Real Madrid striker, with Jurgen Klopp a keen admirer of his talents.

Luka Jovic has seen his career go pear-shaped since joining Real Madrid from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer of 2019. While he would always have had to play second-fiddle to Karim Benzema initially, the fact that he has not performed at all when given an opportunity has not helped his case much.

To date, the 23-year-old has turned out just 38 times for Real Madrid, garnering a measly tally of two goals and three assists in the process. With his career headed nowhere at Real Madrid, a January loan exit has been mooted for Jovic. And now, Liverpool have joined the race to sign the Serbian international.

The interest from Liverpool might come as a bit of a surprise, but it is understandable. The Reds are, after all, expected to offload Divock Origi in one of the two coming transfer windows after failing to do so in the summer.

In addition, Roberto Firmino is on the wrong side of 30, which should prompt Liverpool to start laying down a succession plan for the Brazilian. To that end, the Reds have been linked with several strikers, including Ricardo Pepi, Karim Adeyemi and Robert Lewandowski. And now, Jovic has emerged as a viable target.

While he might not have delivered the goods at Real Madrid, the Serb is still well renowned for his exploits with Eintracht Frankfurt, particularly in the 2018/19 season. And with Jurgen Klopp a keen admirer of his talents, Jovic could well be on his way to Liverpool soon.

For now, the Merseyside outfit are simply keeping tabs on his situation at Real Madrid. At the same time, AC Milan, Inter Milan and Fiorentina are also hot on his trails over a January loan move. So, it remains to be seen if Liverpool will make their move for the Real Madrid outcast soon or if he ends up joining some other club instead.
