Xavi is reportedly interested in signing 25-year-old French international Kingsley Coman if Barcelona appoint him as their next manager.

According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Kingsley Coman could become a key target for Barcelona if Xavi is appointed as the new manager, as is widely expected. Currently managing Al Sadd, the Barcelona legend is a huge admirer of the 25-year-old Bayern Munich attacker.

Kingsley Coman is a serial winner, having won a trophy practically every year since his debut as a senior footballer at club level. However, it is particularly at Bayern Munich that the Frenchman has blossomed into a dangerous wide attacker, becoming a key figure for club and country.

To date, the 25-year-old has made 208 appearances for Bayern Munich, chipping in with 42 goals and 50 assists in the process. However, Bayern Munich are in a precarious situation over the future of the French international, who is in the final year of his contract with the club next summer, with developments on the renewal front being slow. Such a situation could alert Barcelona.

Barcelona are in a transitional state following Ronald Koeman’s dismissal from his post as the first-team boss. The Dutchman’s departure has now sent Barcelona searching for the next manager, with reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reporting that Xavi is set to become the next manager.

With the Barcelona legend’s appointment appearing to be a mere formality, it is safe to assume that the Blaugrana will soon set about laying down the plans for the next two transfer windows. With that in mind, one of Xavi’s potential key targets seems to be Coman.

The report claims that Xavi is a huge admirer of Coman’s talents. With the soon-to-be Barcelona manager keen on signing classical wingers, the 25-year-old French international might become a major target. Apart from Coman, Barcelona could also launch the offensive for Raheem Sterling, who is currently being targeted for a January loan move.

Meanwhile, Coman’s list of prospective suitors is anything but short, with Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United among the clubs showing an interest in him. What now remains to be seen is if Barcelona initiate a move for the Bayern Munich winger following Xavi’s appointment or turn their attention elsewhere.
