Tottenham are reportedly set to rival Liverpool and other Premier League clubs in pursuit of Barcelona contract rebel Ousmane Dembele.

According to a report by 90 min, the race to sign Ousmane Dembele on a free transfer in next summer’s transfer window is heating up, with Premier League emerging as his likeliest destination. And Tottenham are the latest club to show an interest in the Barcelona contract rebel, who is also being courted by Liverpool, Manchester City and Newcastle United.

Ousmane Dembele’s Barcelona spell will always remain a case of what could have been. The French international arrived at Camp Nou in the summer of 2017 as a potential long-term replacement for Neymar, having been touted to be one of the brightest young players in the game at the time.

However, four years since his move from Borussia Dortmund, the 24-year-old has failed to leave his mark at Barcelona so far, spending more time on the sidelines than on the pitch. To date, Dembele has Dembele has managed 30 goals and 21 assists in 118 appearances for the Catalan outfit.

Barcelona, though, are in a precarious position over the future of Dembele, who is in the final year of his contract at Camp Nou. With negotiations over a renewal being slow so far, there is a feeling that the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner could leave Barcelona as a free agent next summer, with Liverpool and Tottenham among his suitors.

The interest from Liverpool is understandable, considering Diogo Jota is the only additional option apart from Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, as far as the regulars are concerned. With Divock Origi facing an uncertain future at Anfield and Takumi Minamino only a backup option, the Reds could do with someone like Dembele.

Tottenham are the latest entrants in the race to sign the Barcelona contract rebel, and Spurs would be well served with signing him. While Son Heung-min continues to go from strength to strength and Bryan Gil is one for the future, the inconsistencies of Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn ought to prompt Nuno Espirito Santo for a new wide attacker, making Dembele a viable target.

Apart from Liverpool and Tottenham, Manchester City and Newcastle United are also keen on signing Dembele while Paris Saint-Germain have also shown an interest in him. However, as per the report, the Premier League appears to be the likeliest destination for Dembele and it remains to be seen if he makes his way to England if he leaves Barcelona as a free agent next summer.
