Everton are reportedly keen on bringing Inter Milan forward Alexis Sanchez and could propose a surprise swap deal for the Chilean in January.

According to fichajes, Everton are apparently interested in acquiring the services of ex-Arsenal forward Alexis Sánchez in the upcoming winter transfer window to strengthen their attacking roster following significant injuries to their key players.

Rafael Benitez is a long admirer of the talented Chilean international and understands the veteran forward can provide a spark of energy to the Toffees’ attack. In addition, the Toffees boss has urged the Everton hierarchy to explore the possibility of signing the former Gunners sensation.

As per Inter live, any possible deal for Sánchez will indeed see Everton seek to offload Turkish forward Cenk Tosun after the former Besiktas’ powerhouse has failed to cement his standing at Goodison Park since his arrival back in 2018, making only 58 outings and having found the back of the net just eleven times. Tosun is not in Benitez’s plans, and hence Everton will try to propose a swap between Alexis Sánchez and Cenk Torun.

The Blues’ want to incorporate the Chilean, who may arrive at Goodison on a free because of Inter Milan’s desperation to get Sanchez’s hefty salary off their wage bill. However, the Italian giants would not be very interested in the Turk due to his immobility in front of the goal.

Sanchez intends to leave San Siro as early as possible, so the idea of returning to England does not seem to be out of the question, even though he will not be an undisputed starter under Benitez.

Sanchez’s form declined ever since switching Arsenal for Old Trafford back in January 2018, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan moving in the opposite direction. He struggled very badly at Old Trafford. Once a prolific scorer, he only netted five goals in 45 games in all competitions and was chastised for his attitude and work rate. Sanchez fell down the pecking order after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took charge from Jose Mourinho, and he was eventually sent out on loan to Italy.

Inter Milan made the move permanent last summer. He played his part in the club’s success at winning the Scudetto under Antonio Conte, although he never came close to reconquer his Arsenal form and was largely riddled with injuries. Sanchez has only had 85 minutes of footballing action so far this campaign and is yet to find the back of the net.

Rafael Benitez has worked wonders with the limited resources he had at the start of the season, though Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s extended injury lay-off has left the attacking line a bit depleted. Salomon Rondon is finding it difficult to recapture his physical shape to suit Premier League as well, so bolstering their goal-scoring department is a priority for Everton to match their European ambition.

Sanchez has surfaced as a possible January option for the Toffees. He could prove to be another excellent acquisition if Benitez could revitalize the Chilean, although his salary demands may prove an issue. The Toffees have sold high-earning luxury players such as James Rodriguez and Bernard and given their record at Goodison Park, they might not want to go down that road again.
