Chelsea are reportedly willing to offer €60 million to sign Ferland Mendy from Real Madrid in next summer’s transfer window.

According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Chelsea have reignited their interest in Ferland Mendy over a move in next summer’s transfer window. To that end, the Blues are ready to offer €60 million to land the French defender from Real Madrid.

Ferland Mendy joined Real Madrid from Lyon in the summer of 2019 and quickly established himself as a key figure for Los Blancos. Over the last couple of years, his stock has grown leaps and bounds, with the 26-year-old becoming a mainstay at the back for the Spanish giants. However, the last few months have been excruciating for Mendy.

A long-term injury had kept the French defender sidelined for months before he finally made his return this month. To date, Mendy has turned out 71 times for Real Madrid, chipping in with three goals and four assists along the way. However, there have been suggestions that he could be facing an uncertain future at Real Madrid, with Chelsea keen on signing him.

In fact, the report suggests that Chelsea had been hot on the trails of Mendy in the summer transfer window as well, only for them to not meet the €60 million valuation that Real Madrid had imposed on him. The interest, though, has not waned in the last few months and for good reason.

Marcos Alonso is once again facing an uncertain future at Chelsea despite a strong start to the new season. In fact, the Spanish international has recently been linked with a move to Inter Milan. With Emerson Palmieri unlikely to establish a foothold in the first-team setup at Stamford Bridge upon his return from his loan spell at Lyon, it goes without saying that Chelsea might need a replacement for Alonso.

To that end, Mendy is a viable target for the Blues, especially considering there have been claims that Real Madrid are considering his sale. That he can also feature as a centre-back in a back three further makes him an appealing target for chelsea, who are ready to finally table the €60 million that Real Madrid have been demanding for him.

Real Madrid, for their part, are in the market for left-back as per recent reports, with a move to re-sign Sergio Reguilon in the works. What now remains to be seen is if Chelsea do indeed offer €60 million to land Mendy or if they turn their attention elsewhere instead.
