Everton defender Yerry Mina has emerged as a potential target for AC Milan, as the Rossoneri look to add defensive reinforcements in January.
According to Calciomercato, AC Milan have shortlisted Yerry Mina as a potential defensive target in the upcoming January transfer window. The Everton defender is joined by Bremer in the list of players targeted by the Serie A giants in their quest to bolster the central defensive unit.
It appears the Rossoneri are preparing for life without Alessio Romagnoli, whose current contract expires at the end of the season. There has been no sign of a contract extension, with Real Madrid reportedly eyeing a Bosman move next summer.
AC Milan, therefore, are in the market for a new centre-back who can offer the competition for Fikayo Tomori and Simon Kjaer, the current first-choice centre-backs for Stefano Pioli.
One of their options is Mina, who has endured a roller coaster of a career since joining Everton in 2018. The Colombian has featured in 83 competitive matches for the Toffees but has never really managed to establish himself as the central figure to the club’s success while injuries haven’t been kind to him either.
Moreover, it is apparent that new coach Rafael Benitez is keen on bolstering his own defensive options, having recently been linked with a swoop for Stoke City’s rising star Harry Souttar. It does raise suspicions over the Colombian’s long-term future at Goodison Park.
The defender’s current contract at the club expires in 2023, so it won’t be surprising at all, to see the Toffees cash in on the former Barcelona in the near future, thus opening up an avenue for him to join Milan.
Premier League stars Tomori, Diego Dalot and Olivier Giroud have already found themselves comfortable after joining Milan in recent years. Mina could hope to find a similar level of success, potentially emerging as a long-term replacement for Kjaer. who turns 33 before the end of the season.
However, the report does state that Milan will not be able to afford the defender’s hefty wage demands, as well as the agent commissions. It could be too much to bear for the Rossoneri, who are going through a tough financial situation, much like their cross-town rivals Inter. As such, they might end up stepping up their chase to sign Bremer, who is a reported target for Manchester United as well.
