Former Barcelona youth prospect Xavi Simons is reportedly considering the possibility of returning to Catalonia from current club Paris Saint-Germain.

According to journalist Adrian Sanchez on Mas Que Pelotas, Paris Saint-Germain’s teenage prodigy Xavi Simons is keen on securing a return to boyhood club Barcelona and has instructed agent Mino Raiola to explore the possibility of a move.

Having started out at the Thader Rojales, Simons moved to Barcelona’s La Masia youth setup in 2010. The teenage midfielder was widely regarded as one of the best young talents coming through the ranks at the club. However, he opted to leave the Catalan giants in 2019, opting to sign for Paris Saint-Germain, where he has continued his progress.

A regular for the club’s Under-19 setup in the UEFA Youth League, Simons also made his first-team debut for the French capital club in February earlier this year in a 1-0 win in Coupe de France clash against SM Caen. The 18-year-old has featured one more time for the senior team in the Ligue 1 against RC Strasbourg in April.

However, Simons has not played for the first-team so far in the 2021/22 campaign, although he has done well in the UEFA Youth League, scoring two goals and setting up one more in three games so far. Capped two times by the Netherlands’ Under-19 setup, the teenage prodigy is now said to be pining for a return to Barcelona and has asked Mino Raiola to check if there is a way back to Catalonia for him.

Sanchez, however, does not mention whether Barcelona are open to re-signing the teenage midfield prospect, although, considering how they have switched their focus towards youth recruitment, it would not be a surprise to see the Blaugrana jump at the chance of signing Simons should an opportunity present itself.

Indeed, the Catalans, due to their financial problems as well as the success seen by the likes of Pedri, Gavi, Ansu Fati, have been looking to bolster their youth ranks significantly. Yusuf Demir was signed last summer while a deal to sign Emre Demir has also been finalised. Furthermore, Barcelona signed former academy ace Kays Ruiz-Atil from PSG on a free transfer.

And with Simons also now keen on a return, the Catalan giants could potentially pull off a similar move for the 18-year-old, whose contract with the Parisian giants will run out at the end of the season.
