Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly eyeing a January swoop for Stoke City’s defensive stalwart Harry Souttar.

According to an exclusive report from Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur have entered the market for Harry Souttar. The Premier League giants are keeping a close eye on the 22-year-old Stoke City defender, with the objective to snap him up in the upcoming January transfer window.

Souttar has become one of the most in-demand prospects in the Championship this season following his impressive breakthrough at Stoke City last season, which saw the Australian defender being involved in 38 league matches.

The 22-year-old centre-back had played a key role in helping Stoke City achieve a mid-table finish in the Championship last term. And the defender seems to have stepped up his game even more in the new season, becoming an indispensable figure in the back three alongside Leo Ostigard and Ben Wilmot.

Souttar’s impressive performances have helped Stoke City make an early push for promotion. And it hasn’t gone unnoticed either, with Everton registering interest in the young Australian earlier this month.

As the reports suggest, it appears Tottenham Hotspur, too, have now entered the fray, as far as the pursuit of Hary Souttar is concerned. The Lilywhites are on the hunt for talented young centre-backs in an attempt to add more pressure on the likes of Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier and new signing Cristian Romero.

Souttar has been identified as an ideal option for Tottenham given the success he has had at Stoke City in recent years. The 22-year-old Australian has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Championship and it is only a matter of time before he makes the next step in his career.

Whether or not Tottenham would be the ideal destination for the Stoke City defender remains to be seen. The North London giants did not have much success with the acquisition of Joe Rodon at the start of last year and the same can be said for Ryan Sessegnon as well. Simply put, the club has not enjoyed much success in integrating young players into the team in recent years.

As such, one would argue that other interested parties like Everton and Aston Villa might prove to be a more logical destination than Tottenham for Harry Souttar, should he look to leave Stoke City in the upcoming January transfer window.
