Real Madrid are reportedly keen on signing Andreas Christensen, who is currently in the final year of his contract with Chelsea.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Andreas Christensen is one of eleven centre-backs on Real Madrid’s radar over a potential Bosman move in the summer transfer window. The Danish defender is currently in the final year of his contract with Chelsea.

Andreas Christensen joined the Chelsea youth setup from Brondby IF in 2012, arriving at the west London club amid a lot of hype surrounding him. However, it was not until the 2017/18 season that he finally established a foothold in the first-team squad at Stamford Bridge, following his return from a two-year loan spell with Borussia Monchengladbach.

To date, Christensen has made 135 appearances for Chelsea. And since the appointment of Thomas Tuchel, he has become one of the first-choice centre-backs for the Blues. Having said that, there has been a degree of concern over his future, with the 25-year-old entering the final year of his deal with Chelsea. Such a situation has alerted Real Madrid.

Real Madrid inexplicably chose not to sign a centre-back in the summer transfer window despite the departures of Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane. Such a decision has left a huge void at the heart of the Merengues’ defence, even though Eder Militao is touted for a bright future at the club.

That is because David Alaba will be utilised in a multitude of positions, as has already been seen in the early stages of the season. That leaves Nacho as the only other centre-back at Carlo Ancelotti’s disposal, especially with Jesus Vallejo hardly used by the former Chelsea boss. And with Nacho on the wrong side of 30, it is imperative that Real Madrid sign a centre-back.

To that end, Christensen is a viable target for Los Blancos, who have also been linked with Jason Denayer, Dan-Axel Zagadou, Alessio Romagnoli and a few other central defenders who are in the final year of their respective deals with their clubs. However, unlike some of their other targets, Christensen appears set to pen a new deal with Chelsea, as per the reliable Fabrizio Romano.

Having said that, another Chelsea defender in Antonio Rudiger is becoming the priority target for Real Madrid, with Christensen seemingly likely to stay put at Stamford Bridge. What now remains to be seen is if Real Madrid do make a move for Christensen irrespective of whether he pens a new deal with Chelsea or if they turn their attention elsewhere.
