Manchester City have been handed a major boost in the pursuit of Robert Lewandowski, with his agent not ruling out a move to Etihad next season.

According to Sport Bild, a move to Etihad could be on the cards for Robert Lewandowski next summer. His agent Pini Zahavi certainly believes so and is ready to engineer a big-money move to England after the end of the season, with Manchester City emerging as the red hot favourites.

Lewandowski’s current contract at Bayern Munich expires in 2023. But the forward is believed to be keen on seeking a new adventure and that is where a move to the Premier League might just suffice.

The Pole already has the experience of working under Pep Guardiola, during their time together at Bayern. In fact, the Catalan mastermind’s influence was vital in helping him kick-start his career with the Bundesliga champions, shortly after making the move from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2014.

Manchester City are on the hunt for a new striker after the summer exit of Sergio Aguero. They haven’t had much success in the market, though, notably missing out on players like Harry Kane, Lionel Messi and even Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer.

Although the Citizens have retained their interest in Kane, Robert Lewandowski could prove to be an ideal cost-effective alternative. The Bayern Munich striker is widely regarded as one of the best players in the world, but his age and expiring contract suggest that he might not cost a fortune like Kane.

The Polish international also has a bigger pedigree at the highest level of football and is one of the favourites to win the Ballon d’Or this year. He can offer the winning mentality as well, having secured a wealth of silverware recently, including the trebel in the 2019/20 campaign under Hansi Flick.

However, it remains to be seen whether Manchester City invests in an ageing striker like Lewandowski next summer, especially given the fact that the much younger Erling Haaland is likely to be available.

At the end of the day, perhaps a lot will depend on how much Borussia Dortmund demand for the Norwegian, whose release clause is being refuted by recent reports, thus giving the Bundesliga giants the leverage to demand a fortune for the young attacking sensation next summer.
