FC Barcelona are prepared to snap up Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria next summer on a free transfer.

A recent report from Transfer Market Web has revealed Barcelona’s interest in Denis Zakaria. The Spanish giants intend on adding more reinforcements in the midfield department despite the recent renewal of Pedri, with the 24-year-old Borussia Monchengladbach starlet emerging as an ideal option.

Formerly of Young Boys of Bern, Zakaria’s current contract at Gladbach expires at the end of the season. It essentially means he might be available for a free transfer should he fail to extend his current deal with the Bundesliga outfit, thus making him a top target for Barcelona.

Like this summer, the Catalans are scouring the market for cost-effective options. While there are multiple candidates for next season, Zakaria proves to be a smart, practical solution as they look to bolster their strength in the middle of the park.

It is needless to point out that Sergio Busquets is in the final phase of his career and might not be useful for long. Frenkie de Jong and Pedri have created a solid midfield combo, but Barcelona need another operator who can complement the two and that is where Denis Zakaria comes into the fray.

The 24-year-old Swiss international, though, has no shortage of suitors, as he has already established himself as one of the finest midfielders in the Bundesliga. With over 130 competitive appearances for Gladbach, he has impressed the onlookers with his work ethic, aggression and versatility in the middle of the park.

In fact, Barcelona’s arch-rivals Real Madrid are the other club keen on acquiring the midfielder’s services on a free transfer next summer. It is not a surprise either as Los Blancos are also scouring the market for free agents.

Zakaria should be an ideal addition to both clubs, with Barcelona, in particular, giving the 24-year-old midfielder the opportunity of potentially building a strong midfield combination alongside de Jong and Pedri.

However, the Catalans do have other options in case they miss out on the Swiss international. Recently, they have been linked with a move for Manchester United Donny van de Beek, who is likely to be given the green light to leave Old Trafford after a horrid one and a half year under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
