Newcastle United have reportedly made a ‘rich’ contract offer for Olympique Marseille’s French midfielder Boubacar Kamara who will be a free agent in the summer.

According to a report from Italian publication La Lazio Siamo Noi, Newcastle United are lining up a swoop for Olympique Marseille star Boubacar Kamara and have made a contract offer for the 21-year-old.

Kamara came through the youth ranks at Marseille and burst onto the scenes as a centre-back, before transitioning into the holding midfield role, a position in which he has excelled. To date, he has managed 130 appearances so far for the Ligue 1 giants, scoring three goals and setting up five more.

Capped nine times by the France Under-21 national team, Kamara has been on the radars of top clubs like Arsenal and Manchester United among others while Barcelona have also shown an interest in him. Now, Newcastle United have also entered the fray for the potential signing of the 21-year-old holding midfielder.

Newcastle are the most talked-about football club currently following their big-money takeover. Equipped with the deep pockets of their new owners, the Magpies are linked with a host of players from across Europe as they look to bolster their squad in the January transfer window to turn around their stuttering season.

Defensive midfield is a position where they can add more depth considering the amount of goals that they have shipped in this season. Isaac Hayden has had fitness issues in the past while there is little in terms of cover for the former Arsenal ace in the No. 6 position. So, adding another player in that position would make sense for the Tynesiders.

Kamara, to that end, can be a good signing for Newcastle. The Frenchman has shown a lot of potential and has gathered plenty of experience despite being just 21 years old. Furthermore, what makes him such an appealing target is that the midfielder is in the final year of his contract and has shown no indication that he wants to sign an extension.

As a result, Newcastle United have made a ‘rich’ contract offer for Kamara, which is expected to blow off other suitors like Lazio, as per the aforementioned report. While he would be available for free at the end of the season, a decent offer could allow the Tynesiders sign him up in the January transfer window itself.

It now remains to be seen if the 21-year-old ends up making his way up to St. James’ Park in the coming months or pens an extension to continue his development at Marseille.
