Manchester United are reportedly considering the prospect of launching a January move for Torino’s Brazilian centre-half Gleison Bremer.

According to a report from Transfermarkt.de, as relayed by Transfer Market Web, Manchester United are planning to make new additions to their backline with Gleison Bremer of Torino FC as emerging as a transfer target for the January window.

Bremer has been with Torino since 2018 when he arrived from his homeland Brazil where he used to play for Atletico Mineiro. Since landing in Italy, the 24-year-old has grown into a first-team regular for the Turin-based outfit helping them maintain their Serie A status amid the threat of relegation.

To date, Bremer has made over 80 appearances for Torino and has emerged as one of the more promising young defenders in the Italian top-flight. He has just missed one league game for the Italians this season and has even captained the side on one occasion. The 24-year-old, however, might not stay with them for much longer, with his contract expiring in 2023.

There has been interest in his services from multiple clubs heading into the new year and Manchester United are among those who have had their eye on him for a while. The Red Devils strengthened their centre-back contingent earlier in the summer when they signed Raphael Varane from Real Madrid.

However, Axel Tuanzebe departed on loan to Aston Villa and is believed to be keen on making the switch permanent. Eric Bailly’s situation currently as the fourth-choice centre-back may prompt him to consider his future as well, with Newcastle United interested in the Ivorian. And with Phil Jones not a major part of the future plans, a new centre-back could very well be needed imminently.

To that Manchester United had been linked with a January transfer for Inter Milan’s Milan Skriniar. But, Bremer too has now emerged as an option for the 20-time English champions. The report states that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men could consider making a move for the towering centre-half as early as the upcoming winter transfer window.

While Torino are said to be planning a new contract offer for the 24-year-old, he has recently admitted that he wishes to play for a bigger club and be involved in European football competitions, something that the Serie A club cannot provide currently. Apart from Manchester United, there is interest from Liverpool as well. So, it will be interesting to see if Bremer does end up switching to England in the near future.
