Manchester City have reportedly been approached by Serie A giants Juventus who are keen on a January move for wantaway midfielder Bernardo Silva.

According to a report from Calciomercato, Juventus are ‘testing the waters’ over a potential move for Manchester City and Portugal midfielder Bernardo Silva in the upcoming winter transfer window.

Silva has been with Manchester City since the summer of 2017, when he arrived from AS Monaco after helping them lift the Ligue 1 title in the previous season. The Portuguese attacking midfielder quickly became a regular part of Pep Guardiola’s side at the Etihad Stadium and has continued to play an integral role in the success that they have achieved since.

Even though there was a brief lull a couple of seasons ago, Silva has reinvented himself and managed to keep hold of his place in the starting lineup at Manchester City despite Guardiola boasting a plethora of world-class options. Known for his creative essence and industry, the former SL Benfica ace can play out wide on the right or as a midfielder and has thrived in both roles at City.

However, reports over the summer claimed that Silva wanted out of the club so that he could play more regularly than he was at the Etihad. Pep Guardiola himself admitted that the midfielder was keen on leaving, sparking serious interest from La Liga giants Barcelona. A move, however, never materialised.

Having stayed put at Manchester City, Silva has started the new season strongly, but continues to be linked with an exit. While Barcelona retain an interest in him, a new player has emerged in pursuit of the Portuguese international in the form of Juventus.

The Bianconeri are in the market for a new creative midfielder as they prepare to part ways with Aaron Ramsey, who has been linked with a move to Newcastle United. In addition, Weston McKennie has also seemingly fallen out of favour under returning manager Massimiliano Allegri and is likely to be shown the exit doors creating multiple vacancies in the midfield department at the Allianz Stadium.

Filling the void with the signing of Silva, would then be a great move by Juventus. The 27-year-old has proven himself at the highest stage for years now, and is in the prime of his career. His presence on the field would also take some of the creative burden off the shoulders of Federico Chiesea as well.

To that end, Juventus have ‘tested the waters’ with an approach to Manchester City over a January move. Whether the Premier League champions are willing to let the Portuguese international leave, however, remains to be seen.
