Barcelona are reportedly interested in Luis Maximiano, with the 22-year-old goalkeeper seen as a replacement for Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Luis Maximiano is the subject of interest from Barcelona over a potential move in a future transfer window. The 22-year-old Granada goalkeeper is being viewed as a potential long-term replacement for Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Luis Maximiano joined Granada this past summer after bringing an end to a near decade-long association with Sporting CP. And the Portuguese goalkeeper has made a solid enough start to life in La Liga, quickly establishing himself as the first-choice goalkeeper for the Nazaries.

So far, the 22-year-old has made five appearances for Granada, conceding just six goals while keeping a couple of clean sheets in the process. His progress in the first six weeks as a La Liga player has not gone unnoticed, with Barcelona among the clubs that are showing an interest in Maximiano.

In recent weeks, the speculation around Marc-Andre ter Stegen has surprisingly been mounting. As per widespread reports, it has been suggested that the German goalkeeper could be on his way out of Camp Nou soon following some sub-par displays over the past year or so.

The drop in stature to such an extent is quite surprising, considering just how crucial ter Stegen has been for Barcelona over the course of his stint with the La Liga heavyweights. However, with his Barcelona future coming under a cloud of uncertainty, a number of options are now being linked as potential replacement, including Kepa Arrizabalaga and Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Former La Masia trainee Andre Onana is also a target for Barcelona, who have now turned their attention towards Maximiano. And the 22-year-old appears to be an option worth considering even if ter Stegen does not depart next summer, seeing as Neto is likely to depart the club as soon as possible while Inaki Pena is being linked with a possible loan exit.

So, Maximiano could possibly arrive as an understudy to ter Stegen before eventually replacing him as the first-choice goalkeeper for Barcelona. For now, though, these are all speculations and it remains to be seen if the 22-year-old ends up making a cross La Liga switch from Granada.
