Juventus are reportedly considering a January move for Bernd Leno, who is currently out of favour at Arsenal.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Juventus are keen on bringing in a potential replacement for Wojciech Szczesny in the January transfer window. And one of the options on their agenda is Bernd Leno, who has fallen down the pecking order at Arsenal.
Bernd Leno joined Arsenal from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2018. And after initially playing second fiddle to Petr Cech, he quickly established himself as a key figure for the Gunners once he got a run of games while also becoming one of the best goalkeepers on show in the Premier League.
To date, the 29-year-old has made 121 appearances for Arsenal, keeping 35 clean sheets while letting in 143 goals in the process. However, the start to the 2021/22 season has not been kind to Leno, who has lost his place as the first-choice goalkeeper to Aaron Ramsdale, who is a summer signing from Sheffield United.
Since then, Leno has come out publicly to express his frustrations over being dropped by Mikel Arteta. And with a little under two years left for his Arsenal contract to run out, there is a feeling that the German international could soon seek a departure from the Emirates. To that end, Juventus has now emerged as a potential suitor.
The Serie A giants have been sorted in the goalkeeping department for years, with Wojciech Szczesny doing a fine job for the most part since succeeding the long-serving Gianluigi Buffon upon his arrival from Arsenal a few years ago.
However, the 31-year-old has made a poor start to the 2021/22 season, with mistakes starting to creep into his game. As a result, there are widespread suggestions that Juventus could bring in a goalkeeper to at least provide some meaningful competition to the former Arsenal goalkeeper if not replace him.
To that end, Leno is a viable target for the Bianconeri, who can also offer the German goalkeeping ace regular European action at its biggest stage. Apart from Juventus, Inter Milan are also keeping tabs on Leno’s situation, as they seek a successor for Samir Handanovic. With that being said, it remains to be seen if the 29-year-old ends up leaving Arsenal this January.
