Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing 26-year-old French defender Presnel Kimpembe from Paris Saint-Germain.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Presnel Kimpembe has emerged on the radar of Real Madrid over the prospect of a move in the future. The 26-year-old Paris Saint-Germain defender is being eyed as a potential alternative to key targets Jules Kounde and Pau Torres.

Presnel Kimpembe has been with Paris Saint-Germain practically his entire career right from the youth playing days, bar three years with AS Eragny. Upon joining Les Parisiens‘ academy in 2005, the French defender made swift progress in the youth setup before earning his big break with the first-team squad in 2014.

While he initially played second fiddle to Thiago Silva and Marquinhos, the 26-year-old has gone on to carve out his own place in the PSG setup, amassing 192 appearances to date for the Ligue 1 heavyweights while chipping in with a goal and an assist apiece. At the same time, he is also now a regular for the French national side while being on the radars of some of the European bigwigs, one of them being Real Madrid.

Real Madrid strangely chose to offset the twin departures of Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane in the summer transfer window by bringing in just one defensive recruitment in the form of David Alaba. With the former Bayern Munich superstar also an option to be deployed as a left-back, it goes without saying that Carlo Ancelotti is short of quality central defensive options.

Indeed, while Eder Militao is touted to have a bright future with Real Madrid, Nacho is already on the wrong side of 30 and is best used as a backup option. With that in mind, it is imperative that the Merengues sign a centre-back at the earliest possible opportunity, with Jules Kounde and Pau Torres reportedly among their priority options.

In addition, Los Blancos also have their sights set on a few other central defenders, and have particularly kept tabs on them in the ongoing transfer window. Some of these players are Aymeric Laporte and Dayot Upamecano, with Kimpembe also emerging as a key target for Real Madrid.

The 26-year-old is a viable target for the Spanish giants and could arrive at the Bernabeu at the peak of his powers. However, amid strained relationships with PSG in the wake of their pursuit of Kylian Mbappe, it remains to be seen if Real Madrid stand a chance of swooping the French international away from Parc des Princes.
