Sergio Busquets is reportedly fed up of Ronald Koeman and is weighing up the prospect of leaving leaving Barcelona to join Manchester City.

According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Manchester City are interested in signing Sergio Busquets in next summer’s transfer window. And the Premier League champions have been handed a major boost in pursuit of the Barcelona midfielder, who is open to departing Camp Nou owing to his frustrations with Ronald Koeman.

Sergio Busquets spent his formative years with as many as five clubs before finally graduating from the Barcelona youth setup. And since making his first-team debut in 2008, the veteran midfielder has not looked back, establishing himself as one of the best players of his generation and to this day, a premier midfielder.

To date, the 33-year-old has made 638 appearances for Barcelona, chipping in with 15 goals and 41 assists along the way. However, things seem to have reached a head for Busquets, who has grown increasingly frustrated with the Blaugrana’s struggles under Ronald Koeman and is now looking to leave Barcelona, as per the report. This has alerted Manchester City.

Manchester City are eyeing a short-term replacement for Fernandinho, who is approaching the end of the line at the Etihad. As a result, the Premier League champions are seeking an experienced head who could come in and make an immediate impact. Such an outlook has also seen them turn their attention towards Luka Modric.

And while the Real Madrid veteran is open to joining the Citizens, they might have now found a more like-for-like replacement in a player who could even be an asset for a few additional years as compared to someone like Modric. And with Busquets considering the prospect of leaving Barcelona, they have been handed a boost in pursuit of the 32-year-old already.

The report states that Manchester City could offer Busquets a two-year deal with the option to join New York City FC for two further years post the stint at the Etihad. It is still unclear, though, if the Spanish international would be open to accepting such a deal.

For now, though, Busquets appears to be ready to call it quits at Barcelona, if El Nacional are to be believed. What now remains to be seen is if Manchester City can swoop him away from Camp Nou in the summer transfer window, bringing him in as Fernandinho’s replacement.
