Everton and Southampton are reportedly among the Premier League clubs that are closely following the development of Real Betis midfielder Rodri Sanchez.

According to a report from Spanish publication Fichajes, Everton and Southampton are tracking the progress of Real Betis’ 21-year-old attacking midfielder, Rodri Sanchez, with a view of making a move for him.

Sanchez spent his youth career travelling through the academies of Atletico Madrid, Espanyol, Barcelona and Deportivo La Coruna before settling down at the Real Betis youth setup in 2016. Having gradually progressed through the ranks, the 21-year-old ended up making his first-team debut last season.

To date, the young Sanchez has made 26 appearances for Los Verdiblancos scoring and assisting a couple of goals each. He has carved out a place for himself in the lineup under Manuel Pellegrini this season, alongside the likes of Nabil Fekir and Sergio Canales. Primarily a central attacking midfielder, the young Spaniard has been used out wide on the flanks by Real Betis so far.

Sanchez’s progress at the Benito Villamarin, coupled with his low valuation, has seemingly attracted interest from the Premier League, with Everton and Southampton among those keeping tabs on the Spanish Under-21 international.

Everton are in the market for new additions to the attacking midfield position after having lost James Rodriguez this season while Gylfi Sigurdsson has also not been registered. This has left manager Rafael Benitez without a natural No. 10 in the side, forcing him to use Demarai Gray in the position.

While the ex-Leicester City ace has impressed heavily, it would bode well for Everton to add another player in the position, making Sanchez a viable target. The fact that the Spaniard can play out wide means he would offer depth in multiple positions. However, Everton are likely to have to stave off competition from Southampton.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side are said to be looking to add more depth to their options out wide despite having players like Theo Walcott, Moussa Djenepo, Mohamed Elyounoussi and Nathan Tella while Stuart Armstrong has also been utilised out wide. None of them have been performing at their best on a consistent basis, though, making a case for the addition of another player like Rodri Sanchez.

Apart from Everton and Southampton, Brighton & Hove Albion are also said to be keeping tabs on the Spanish attacking midfielder. Sanchez is contracted with Betis till the summer of 2024, but as per the report, his valuation is not very high. It now remains to be seen if any of these clubs make a move for him in January or in the summer.
