Real Madrid are reportedly ready to cut their losses on Eden Hazard, with a potential sale beckoning in the January transfer window.

According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Carlo Ancelotti is prepared to cut out one of the underperforming players in his squad. The player in question is Eden Hazard, with Real Madrid likely to want to offload him in the January transfer window.

Eden Hazard completed a dream move to Real Madrid in the summer of 2018 following a glittering seven-year spell with Chelsea. However, the stint in the Spanish capital has been nothing short of a nightmare for the Belgian attacking powerhouse, whose stock has fallen considerably over the last three years.

One of the best players in the world back when he arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu, Hazard has become a shell of an attacker he once was. The major reason for his downfall has been a spate of injuries, with the 30-year-old spending more time on the sidelines than as part of the starting lineup.

As a result, Hazard has managed just 51 appearances for Los Blancos while only raking in a paltry tally of five goals and nine assists in the process. And while the former Chelsea talisman has not been hampered by any fitness issues this term, his performances have not been up to the mark, with the previous injuries still having their knock on effects on his displays.

As a result, he has been branded an expensive flop by many, and Real Madrid have now taken the decision to cut their losses on him and part ways with him, possibly in the January transfer window. Hazard had also been touted for a summer exit from the Spanish club, with Juventus being briefly linked with him.

This time around, the identity of prospective suitors is not clear yet, and it will be interesting to see if any of the bigwigs of European football look to make their move for the Belgium captain. The decision to offload Hazard, though, could well make sense considering Real Madrid have big plans to bring in Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland next summer.

With that in mind, a major restructuring of the attacking unit is set to ensue, with the likes of Marco Asensio, Luka Jovic and Mariano Diaz also set to be on the chopping block. As for Hazard, it remains to be seen what the future holds for him and whether he can turn things around at Real Madrid in the coming weeks and months.
