Manchester United have reportedly registered an interest in Juventus and Italy winger Federico Chiesa on the recommendation of superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.

According to Italian journalist Ivan Reggiani on Calciomercato TV, Manchester United have set their sights on Juventus hotshot Federico Chiesa after the 23-year-old received a glowing recommendation from Cristiano Ronaldo.

Chiesa, a product of the Fiorentina youth academy product, was widely regarded as one of the best young attackers in Italy when he burst onto the scenes with the Viola a few years ago. The Italian winger has delivered on that promise and then some, earning a move to Juventus in the summer last year.

Chiesa signed for the Bianconeri on a two-season long loan deal with the option of making the transfer permanent in 2022, which they very much intend to do after his exploits at the Allianz Stadium over the past year. Indeed, the 23-year-old was one of Juventus’ best players last term, along with Ronaldo, even though the season did not end well for the Serie A giants.

Following up on that, Chiesa played a huge role in Italy lifting the UEFA Euro 2020 earlier this summer while he has once again looked Juve’s most impactful player amidst the club’s struggles in the new campaign. The 23-year-old’s growth has naturally attracted the interest of several heavy-hitters across Europe including the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool.

It seems now that Manchester United, too, have entered the race for the potential signing of the Italian international. Shedding light on the Red Devils’ interest in the 23-year-old, journalist Reggiani said: “I think there are very serious and important foreign pressures on him. Appreciated across the channel, he is heavily sponsored by Cristiano Ronaldo.

“I think Federico can leave Juventus very soon. It can easily exceed one hundred million . There is not only United, there are 2-3 clubs that could reach €120-130 million”.

Manchester United strengthened their wide-attacking department this past summer with the big-money signing of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund. The Red Devils also have the likes of Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, Amad Diallo and Anthony Martial, all of whom can play out on the flanks.

However, it must be noted that Lingard’s contract runs out next year while Greenwood is viewed as a No.9 in the long run. Furthermore, with Martial’s future at Old Trafford looking uncertain after yet another slow start to the season, there could be room created in the attacking contingent for another winger, especially if it is someone as talented and brimming with world-class potential as Chiesa.

Club legend Rio Ferdinand had recently lamented over the Red Devils not making a move for Chiesa, but with Ronaldo also now recommending him, that could change next year. However, as Reggiani states, a move for the Juventus ace could cost in excess of €100 million with multiple clubs keen on him. So, it might not be straightforward for United to get their man if indeed they are interested in him.
