Inter Milan are reportedly ready to make a summer swoop for Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso, who faces an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge.

According to Rudy Galetti, Inter Milan have definitely identified Marcos Alonso as a priority target for next summer. The reigning Serie A champions believe the Chelsea full-back could be an ideal replacement for Ivan Perisic, who is likely to leave the club in the near future.

Alonso’s current contract at Chelsea expires in 2023. But amid strong competition for a place in the starting eleven, it won’t be surprising to see the Spaniard make the jump elsewhere, with Inter Milan emerging as an ideal suitor.

However, it is fair to point out that Alonso has been Chelsea’s first-choice left wing-back so far this season. He has featured in six Premier League encounters, being involved in two goals while also starting in UEFA Champions League and Carabao Cup matches.

The 30-year-old has won almost everything as well during his ongoing five and a half year stint at Stamford Bridge, including the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and the Europa League. His major success in these tournaments with Chelsea coupled with the left-back’s experience at the highest level of football have understandable made him a priority choice for Inter.

Apart from the uncertain future of Perisic, the Nerazzurri‘s interest in Alonso further stems from the summer departure of Ashley Young to Aston Villa. It has created a void in the Serie A giants’ left wing-back department, with Federico Dimarco not being able to make an impression in the early parts of the campaign.

Formerly of Fiorentina, Alonso has been no stranger to speculations over a return to Serie A either. In fact, Inter Milan have been linked with a move for the Chelsea defender for a long time.

As for Chelsea, it appears unclear as to how the club plans to involve Alonso in the future. They do have the talented Ben Chilwell in their ranks, but the Englishman has had difficulties replicating his performances from Leicester City.

As such, the Blues may be compelled to keep hold of Marcos Alonso, knowing they do not have too many alternatives. Not to mention, Chelsea are currently focusing on the pursuit of a new centre-back, with Niklas Sule being identified as a potential target. The departure of Marcos Alonso, in that regard, will force them to find a new left-back, which could be a hassle in the current financial climate.
