Premier League giants Arsenal are among the clubs keen on Sporting CP’s latest attacking prospect Tiago Tomas.

According to a recent report from Tuttomercatoweb, Arsenal are in the market for Tiago Tomas. The Sporting CP youngster is currently one of the hottest prospects in Portuguese football and is being considered the potential future of the country’s attacking unit.

Arsenal are closely monitoring the progress of Tomas, but they are set to face stiff competition from AS Roma. Sporting themselves are not too keen on offloading the youngster, not just in January but also in the summer transfer window.

The player does have a contract with the Portuguese giants that expires in 2025, giving the club the leverage to hold on to their brightest prospect as he looks to make his breakthrough in professional football this season.

A native of Cascais, Tomas is a centre-forward by trade, who was promoted to the senior side of Sporting last summer. He did feature in 30 league matches for the Lions, scoring three goals while providing two assists. It was not too crucial but it did play a role in helping the club sensationally secure the Primeira Liga title.

The 19-year-old forward has endured a relatively difficult start to the new season, featuring in under 100 minutes of league action. He has played second fiddle to Paulinho so far, but Sporting believe the youngster can soon make his presence felt at the highest level of football.

Tomas’ promise and raw potential have now put Arsenal on alert. In fact, the Gunners have been tracking him for quite a long time, having been linked with a swoop for the 19-year-old way back in February.

It is apparent that the Gunners are in the market for some new talents who can further strengthen the highly talented and young attacking contingent, comprising Emile Smith Rowe, Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Martinelli.

However, one may argue that in order to maintain a better balance in the team, Arsenal must prioritise a more experienced alternative. To that end, Manchester City and England superstar Raheem Sterling has been linked with a shocking move to Emirates lately, though the club may have to offload several fringe players in order to facilitate the transfer.
