Arsenal are reportedly among the clubs that are keen on signing Sardar Azoun, battling AC Milan for the 26-year-old Iranian forward.

According to reputed Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur, Sardar Azmoun is the subject of interest from Arsenal over a move in a future transfer window. The 26-year-old Zenit St Petersburg forward is also being courted by AC Milan.

Sardar Azmoun has spent his entire senior club footballing career in Russia, having joined Rubin Kazan from Sepahan in January 2013 as a prodigious young forward. Since then, the player has come leaps and bounds, although he pendulated a fair bit between Rubin Kazan and FC Rostov before landing at Zenit St Petersburg in 2019.

Over the last couple of years, the 26-year-old has proven to be a key figure for Zenit, and has started the 2021/22 campaign strongly, with six goals and an assist in 12 appearances so far. Azmoun also has a fine record for the Iranian national side, with 37 goals in 56 outings to date. His progress in Russia has duly been noted, with Arsenal among the clubs in his pursuit.

Arsenal appear set to enter the transfer market for a striker next summer, largely owing to the uncertainty surrounding Alexandre Lacazette. The Frenchman has entered the final year of his deal with the Gunners and is likely to either depart in the January transfer window on a cut-price fee or on a Bosman move next summer.

In addition, Eddie Nketiah remains a bit-part player and is also reaching the end of the line at Arsenal, having found himself in a situation not too dissimilar to Lacazette. There have also been suggestions that Folarin Balogun could be on the move in January, albeit temporarily so, with a winter loan on the horizon.

As a result, it is hardly surprising that Arsenal are in the market for a centre forward, with the likes of Andrea Belotti, Ollie Watkins and Domic Calvert-Lewin among the strikers linked with them of late while Azmoun is a viable target as well. Arsenal, though, also have AC Milan for company in pursuit of the 26-year-old.

Interestingly, Lacazette is one of the strikers linked with the Rossoneri, with a January move not out of the equation. That being said, it remains to be seen if Milan turn their attention towards Azmoun instead and beat Arsenal to the Iranian forward or if the north Londoners manage to snap him up instead.
