Barcelona have reportedly been offered an opportunity to secure the signing of Liverpool forward Divock Origi in the upcoming transfer window.

According to a report from Catalunya Radio, Barcelona have been handed a chance to make a move for Liverpool striker Divock Origi by his representatives as the Belgian actively seeks an exit from Anfield.

Origi has been on Liverpool’s books since 2014 and has had a couple of loan spells away at LOSC Lille and VfL Wolfsburg before being properly integrated into the side. While he has never really been a regular for Jurgen Klopp, the 26-year-old scored vital goals in the Reds’ UEFA Champions League and Premier League-winning campaigns in 2018/19 and 2019/20 respectively.

However, over the past year, opportunities have become very hard to come by for the Belgian international, who was heavily linked with an exit during the summer. But there were no takers for him at the time, which left Klopp bemused. But with Origi still not featuring regularly, he is keen on securing an exit in January with the FIFA World Cup coming up next year.

To that end, Origi, as per the aforementioned report, has been offered to La Liga giants Barcelona. The Catalans are in the market for a new, cost-effective solution to their attacking woes during the January transfer window considering that the move to sign Luuk de Jong has not worked well while Sergio Aguero continues to be sidelined with injuries.

As a result, Barcelona are exploring the market for low-cost options to bolster their centre-forward slot. Players whose contracts expire in 2022 are being particularly targeted as they would be available on the cheap, with moves for Torino’s Andrea Belotti as well as Edinson Cavani of Manchester United being touted.

Origi, too, has registered on the radars of Barcelona and now the striker’s services have been offered to the Catalan giants by his representatives. Despite his lack of playing time, the 26-year-old is a capable forward with the Blaugrana being well aware of qualities after he scored a brace in that famous night at Anfield in the UEFA Champions League semi-final in 2019 as Liverpool beat Barca 4-0.

It will now be interesting to see whether Origi becomes the latest player to swap Anfield for Camp Nou following in the footsteps of Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho.
