Southampton are reportedly interested in signing 19-year-old prodigy Fabio Carvalho from Fulham in the January transfer window.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Fabio Carvalho continues to become more highly sought-after with every passing day. The latest club to be linked with the Fulham whizkid are Southampton, who are seeking a move in the January transfer window for the 19-year-old.
Fabio Carvalho has been with Fulham since he arrived from Balham in 2014. Over the last seven years, the teenage prodigy has come leaps and bounds at the London club before making his first-team debut last season. However, it is at the onset of the new campaign that he has established himself as a regular for the Cottagers.
So far in 2021/22, Carvalho has three goals and an assist in five appearances in the Championship, and has been one of the top performers in the second tier of English football. His progress has not gone unnoticed in the slightest, with a number of top clubs across Europe already setting their sights on him. In addition, Premier League strugglers Southampton also seem to be interested.
Southampton have not made the best of starts to the 2021/22 season, sitting 17th on the Premier League table after the first seven gameweeks. In fact, the Saints are one of four top-flight clubs that are yet to get their first league win of the campaign, although they have only lost thrice.
However, it is clear that Ralph Hasenhuttl & co. will need some inspiration in attack if they are to maintain their Premier League status. With that in mind, Carvalho is a viable target for Southampton, especially with Theo Walcott now well into his thirties while Stuart Armstrong does not seem to be in Hasenhuttl’s plans.
So, Carvalho could come in as a competitor to Mohamed Elyounoussi and Moussa Djenepo to play off of the two central strikers. And with that in mind, Southampton are eyeing a potential January move for Carvalho, hoping to take advantage of his contract situation, with the 19-year-old whizkid in the final year of his deal with Fulham.
However, Southampton are not the only club in pursuit of Carvalho, who has also been linked with Real Madrid, Chelsea and West Ham United, among others. As for the interest from Southampton, it will be interesting to see if the Saints can beat some of the bigger clubs to land the Fulham ace in January.
