Real Madrid are reportedly keeping tabs on the situation of 24-year-old RB Leipzig defender Angelino, who has emerged as a potential left-back target.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Angelino is the subject of interest from Real Madrid over a move in next summer’s transfer window. However, the Merengues are wary of the 24-year-old RB Leipzig defender’s recent fitness record and will be closely monitoring him over the course of the season.

Angelino has come leaps and bounds since joining RB Leipzig from Manchester City. Initially signed on loan in January 2020, the Spanish defender made such a rapid impression that his stay was extended by a further year in the summer transfer window that beckoned. And after continuing his upward trajectory at the Red Bull Arena, he was signed permanently earlier this year.

To date, the 24-year-old has made 61 appearances for Leipzig while garnering an impressive tally of nine goals and 18 assists. His advent at the Bundesliga club has not gone unnoticed, with Angelino being linked with several bigwigs of European football in recent times. As things stand, though, Real Madrid are tracking the player.

Real Madrid already have a number of Leipzig players on their radar, with a recent report claiming that they have had Nordi Mukiele, Christopher Nkunku and Ilaix Moriba scoutedLos Blancos now seem to have added another player from the Bundesliga giants on their shortlist of potential targets in the form of Angelino.

Indeed, Real Madrid appear to be eager to bolster both the full-back positions next summer, with Mukiele being one of the candidates to strengthen the right-back slot. As for left-back, the situation is not as grim, although with Marcelo in the twilight of his career and Ferland Mendy still making his way back from a long-term injury, the Merengues ought to keep their options open.

So while Miguel Gutierrez is one for the future, Mendy’s precarious fitness situation could well prompt the Spanish giants to pursue a left-back, making Angelino a viable target. However, Real Madrid are wary of Angelino’s own fitness issues, with the 24-year-old missing a fair chunk of the games that Leipzig have played over the past year or so due to muscle injuries.

With that in mind, Real Madrid are set to keep tabs on his fitness situation over the course of the ongoing season before taking a call on possibly launching a move for him. For now, Angelino has emerged as a potential target for Real Madrid and it remains to be seen if he ends up returning to Spain for the first time since his youth playing days next summer.
