Real Madrid are reportedly willing to offer Marco Asensio in the deal to sign Borussia Dortmund goal machine Erling Haaland.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Real Madrid hope to have a trick up their sleeves in pursuit of Erling Haaland. The Spanish giants are looking to engineer a player-plus-cash deal to land the Borussia Dortmund goal machine, with Marco Asensio set to be21 offered to the Bundesliga giants.
Erling Haaland has the world at his feet despite being all of 21. The Norwegian striker has gone from strength to strength since enjoying his breakthrough campaign in 2019/20. He has started the ongoing campaign in fine fashion, with 11 goals and four assists in just eight appearances.
A goal machine in its truest sense, Haaland has invariably popped up on the radars of some of the biggest clubs in Europe. And it is widely believed that he will be on the move from Dortmund next summer, when the release clause in his contract with the Bundesliga giants activates. Chief among his suitors are Real Madrid.
Real Madrid have been linked with Haaland pretty much since he first burst on to the spotlight two years ago. The Merengues, though, have bided their time and are ready to now make their move when the summer transfer window reopens next summer.
The need for someone like Haaland is imperative as well, despite the brilliant form of Karim Benzema. Indeed, it is important to note that the French international is well into his thirties, meaning it will be a prudent move on Real Madrid’s part to lay down a succession plan for him.
Haaland is, therefore, a viable target for Los Blancos, who are now hoping to have a trick up their sleeves to bring down his price tag. That will be done in the form of a player-plus-cash deal, which will include Marco Asensio, who has been heavily linked with a potential exit of late.
While Carlo Ancelotti fought hard to keep the 25-year-old Spaniard in his squad, he has not been helping his case by blowing hot and cold this term. Asensio, for his part, would consider a move away from Real Madrid next summer if he does not receive regular game-time this term.
However, it is unclear whether Borussia Dortmund would accept a part-exchange deal to part with Haaland. For now, Real Madrid are exploring the possibility of a player-plus-cash transfer to land the Norwegian goal machine from the Bundesliga giants and it remains to be seen if they win the race to sign him in 2022.
