Liverpool are reportedly among the clubs keeping a close watch on Bayer Leverkusen’s French forward Moussa Diaby over a potential transfer.

According to a report from Italian publication Calciomercato, Liverpool have entered the fray for the signing of 22-year-old versatile French forward Moussa Diaby from Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen.

Diaby started and came through the youth ranks at Paris Saint-Germain. After a loan stint with Crotone, he made his first-team breakthrough at the French capital club. The winger went on to make over 30 appearances for Les Parisiens, scoring four goals and setting up seven more, but decided to leave for Leverkusen in 2019 in search of more regular playing time.

Since arriving at BayArena, the 22-year-old Frenchman has evolved into a key player for Die Werkself, making a contribution of 21 goals and 24 assists from 91 appearances across all competitions. Diaby even made his breakthrough in the French national team during the international break in September and has two caps to his name.

Diaby’s growth and development at Bayer Leverkusen over the past couple of seasons has clearly not gone unnoticed, with Liverpool said to be among a number of clubs keen on signing the 22-year-old, as per the report.

Liverpool have a quality frontline that comprises Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane. Apart from the three, Jurgen Klopp also has the likes of Diogo Jota and Divock Origi to count upon in the final third. However, the latter’s future at Anfield remains up in the air, with him likely to leave the club at the earliest given opportunity.

Meanwhile, both Mane and Salah are closing in on their thirties and will need to be replaced eventually by Klopp, with someone like Diaby helping lay the early groundwork for the day when either of the two decide to move on from the club or hang up their boots.

Diaby is not the only young attack that Liverpool are considering, with yet another Bayer Leverkusen ace, Florian Wirtz, also very much on the radars of the Merseyside giants, along with several other top clubs.

As for Diaby, the 22-year-old is contracted with the Bundesliga giants till the summer of 2025 and is likely to command a significant transfer fee as a result. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool act on their interest in him in the near future.
