Barcelona are reportedly considering the possibility of signing Mohamed Salah, whose future at Liverpool is somewhat uncertain at the moment.

According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Mohamed Salah has popped up on the radar of Barcelona over a potential move on a cut-price fee next year. However, Jurgen Klopp is scrambling to get the Egyptian forward tied down to a new long-term contract at Liverpool.

Salah has been a talismanic figure for Liverpool since arriving from AS Roma in the summer of 2017. One of the most prolific forwards in Europe, the 29-year-old has often scored goals for fun and has started the 2021/22 season in fine fashion, scoring eight goals in as many games so far.

However, Liverpool are in a bit of bothersome position over the long-term future of the player, who will enter the final year of his contract with the club next summer. As a result, Jurgen Klopp is scouring around to secure Salah’s future. His situation, though, has piqued the interest of one of the biggest clubs in the world, with Barcelona setting their sights on him.

Barcelona are in desperate need of an injection of goals in their game following the departures of Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann. While Memphis Depay appears to be a fine addition to Ronald Koeman’s squad, there is very little quality in terms of consistent goalscoring beyond the Dutchman, especially with Ansu Fati still finding his feet after recovering from a long-term injury.

Their alarming issues were never more evident than in their listless display against Benfica, who handed the Catalan giants a shock 3-0 defeat on Wednesday. As a result, it is hardly surprising that Barcelona are reported to be in the market for an attacking reinforcement.

To that end, the likes of Ferran Torres, Erling Haaland and Antony are among the players to have been linked with Barcelona, who have now set their sights on Salah. And the La Liga heavyweights are hopeful of swooping the 29-year-old away from Liverpool on the cheap next summer as things stand.

Salah has also been linked with Real Madrid in recent times, but the report suggests that Los Blancos are prioritising a double swoop of Haaland and Kylian Mbappe instead. What now remains to be seen is if Barcelona do end up making their move for Salah and if Liverpool can manage to keep hold of their prized asset.
