Liverpool are reportedly tracking Luis Diaz and scouted the 24-year-old Colombian attacker in their recent Champions League clash with FC Porto.

According to a report by The Independent, Liverpool are the latest club to have shown an interest in signing Luis Diaz in a future transfer window. In fact, it has been claimed that the Reds had every intention of closely monitoring the 24-year-old Colombian attacker during their UEFA Champions League clash with FC Porto this week.

Luis Diaz joined FC Porto from Colombian club Junior FC in the summer of 2019 and has since made massive stride in his career. Now a regular for club and country, the player has impressed with his versatility while also having cultivated an eye for a goal.

Following a solid Copa America campaign, Diaz has been on a flier early in the 2021/22 season, with five goals and an assist to show for his efforts in nine appearances across all competitions. His progress over the last two years has not gone unnoticed, with some of the biggest clubs in Europe starting to cast admiring glances towards the 24-year-old.

Everton were heavily linked with Diaz in the summer transfer window and continue to retain an interest in the Colombian attacker. The FC Porto ace has also been linked with Barcelona lately, with Liverpool now joining the race to sign him.

As per The Independent, Liverpool intended to scout the player in action during their meeting with FC Porto in the UEFA Champions League. Liverpool cruised to a 5-1 win over the Portuguese giants on Tuesday, Diaz was one of the players who impressed when it came to the home side.

The interest in Diaz makes a lot of sense as well, considering Divock Origi has become a bit-part player and is likely to be offloaded at the earliest possible opportunity. And while Takumi Minamino impressed in the Carabao Cup win over Norwich City last week, Liverpool still need to bring in an attacking reinforcement as Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane reach their thirties.

With that in mind, Liverpool have been linked with a number of attacking players since the transfer window slammed shut for the summer. And Diaz is a viable target as well, although it remains to be seen if the Merseyside giants end up firming their interest in him in the weeks and months to come after seeing him in action this week.
