AS Monaco have reportedly slapped a €40 million price tag on 21-year-old French international Aurelien Tchouameni, a target for Chelsea.

According to reputed Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur, Chelsea now know how much they will need to shell out to secure the services of Aurelien Tchouameni. AS Monaco are demanding €40 million for the 21-year-old French international, who is yet to be pursued officially by the Blues.

Aurelien Tchouameni has come leaps and bounds since joining AS Monaco from Bordeaux in January 2020. Over the past 18 months, the youngster has gone on to establish himself as not just a regular feature for the principality club but also key figure for them, having made 58 appearances at Stade Louis II while chipping in with four goals and as many assists along the way.

His progress has also helped the 21-year-old earn his breakthrough with the French national side, with the player making his breakthrough at international level recently. In addition, his exploits have been noticed by some of the biggest clubs in Europe, with one of his prospective suitors being Chelsea.

The interest from Chelsea is understandable, seeing as N’Golo Kante is on the wrong side of 30 and has also been bogged down by a myriad of fitness issues of late. In addition, the future of Saul Niguez is uncertain at Stamford Bridge, and it is not clear whether the Blues will make his stay at the club a permanent one.

While Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour have impressed on loan away from Chelsea, one cannot be sure about either of them getting their big break at the west London club next season. With that in mind, it is not too surprising to see Chelsea being hot on the trails of the 21-year-old.

Chelsea now know how much they will have to stump up to secure the services of Tchouameni, with AS Monaco unwilling to sell him for anything less than €40 million. While the price tag is not steep, Chelsea are yet to approach the Ligue 1 giants over a move for the French international.

What now remains to be seen is if Chelsea firm up their interest in Tchouameni anytime soon and whether they are prepared to meet his €40 million valuation. For now, the 21-year-old continues to go from strength to strength for Monaco, having been ever-present in midfield so far this season.
