West Ham United are reportedly interested in signing 23-year-old Guinean forward Mohamed Bayo from Ligue 1 newcomers Clermont.

According to an exclusive report by The Sun, Mohamed Bayo is the subject of interest from West Ham United over a move in a future transfer window. The 23-year-old Guinean forward is unsettled at Clermont after not getting a summer exit from the Ligue 1 newcomers.

Mohamed Bayo is a native of Clermont and has spent nearly his entire career with Clermont Foot 63, apart from spending 18 months with USL Dunkerque. Since returning to Stade Gabriel-Montpied, though, the youngster has been in fine form, playing a key role in helping them secure promotion to Ligue 1.

The Guinean international has made a fantastic start to the 2021/22 season as well, racking up four goals and two assists in seven Ligue 1 appearances. However, despite performing admirably in the French top-flight, the 23-year-old is unsettled at Clermont after not managing to complete a move away from the club. Now, though, Bayo has appeared on the radar of West Ham United.

West Ham have been scouring the transfer market for a striker ever since Sebastien Haller departed the London Stadium back in January to join Ajax. However, the Hammers have been unable to sign any centre-forward in either of the last two transfer windows despite making a fair few reinforcements to their squad.

This past summer, the Hammers scouted a number of strikers including Gaetan Laborde, Youssef En-Nesyri and others. And the search for a striker has only continued since the transfer window closed, with Luka Jovic and Alexandre Lacazette among those on West Ham’s radar.

Now, Bayo is the latest striker to have emerged on the agenda for West Ham, who might have to wait till next summer to land him, as he will be away for the Africa Cup of Nations in January. The report, meanwhile, adds that Clermont wanted £10 million in exchange for the 23-year-old in the summer.

If the valuation remains around a similar figure, West Ham could be in the equation to swoop Bayo away from the Ligue 1 club. All things considered, though, signing the Guinean forward has to be imperative, seeing as there is no other striker at David Moyes’s disposal apart from Michail Antonio and it remains to be seen if he ends up making his way to the London Stadium.
